Lectio Divina 147

Evening Gatha, from Zen Mountain Monastery Liturgy Manual.  Mount Tremper, NY: Dharma Communications, 1998, p.47.

Let me respectfully remind you,
life and death are of supreme importance.
Time swiftly passes by
and opportunity is lost.
Each of us should strive to awaken.
Awaken.  Take heed.
Do not squander your life.

On a visit to a Zen monastery recently we heard this chant, cutting through everything to what is essential.

Awaken.

Take heed.

Do not squander your life.

Thank you. It is a perfect time of the year to contemplate what I am doing with my life. I have wanted for a long time to share my gifts. This will be the year.
