It always strikes me, and it is very peculiar, that, whenever we see the image of indescribably and unutterable desolation -- of loneliness, poverty, and misery, the end and extreme of things -- the thought of God comes into one’s mind.

Lectio Divina - Eighty-Two
It always strikes me, and it is very peculiar, that, whenever we see the image of indescribably and unutterable desolation -- of loneliness, poverty, and misery, the end and extreme of things -- the thought of God comes into one’s mind.

Loving God, help me to remember the poor, the lonely, the miserable, to hold them in my heart, and to be open to the ways in which I may serve them. Help me to be reminded of you when I see them, to hold you in my heart, to be open to the ways in which I may serve you. I pray that the poor and the lonely may feel your loving presence.
Fill us up, God, with your unending abundance. Lead us to share mightily all the gifts you shower upon us daily. Help us to realize that we are all one, and what happens to one person, happens to us all.
