Lectio Divina - Thirty-one

Thich Nhat Hanh. Living Buddha, Living Christ. New York: Riverhead Books, 1995, pp. 23-4.

Our true home is in the present moment. The miracle is not to walk on water. The miracle is to walk on the green earth in the present moment. Peace is all around us - in the world and in nature - and within us - in our bodies and our spirits. Once we learn to touch this peace, we will be healed and transformed. It is not a matter or faith; it is a matter of practice. We need only to bring our body and mind into the present moment, and we will touch what is refreshing, healing, and wondrous.

The great Vietnamese Buddhist Thich Nhat Hanh often focuses in his writing on mindfulness - bringing ourselves into the present moment - and he helps us to feel that mindfulness, which is accessible to us right now and in every moment. For those of us who believe in God, this is a way of bringing ourselves into the presence of God. As Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is within you.”

Loving God, help me to be with you, here in this moment, right here, right now. Help me to touch what is refreshing, healing, and wondrous, and help me to help others to feel this wondrous presence.

Ah, Thich Nhat Hanh! Present Moment, Wonderful Moment, every moment. Ah!

Precious Godess, be with me. Thank you for being with me every moment. Help me be aware of you, of peace, this very moment, which is every moment. Awomen.

Imagine! Peace "is not a matter or faith; it is a matter of practice." Oh, God of my understanding, please lead me to practice moment by moment, day by day, your peace, which passes all understanding.
Thank you.
